As expected, heavily favored Agave Kiss drew away powerfully this afternoon at Aqueduct to win the $150,000 Cicada Stakes (gr. III) by three lengths.
Ridden to victory by Ryan Curatolo, Agave Kiss broke quickly and went straight to the lead in the six-furlong event. Alydarla briefly challenged her for the early lead along the inside, but Agave Kiss quickly put her away to lead by two lengths early on while running fractions of :23.46 and :46.24. Corderosa, the second choice in the field of five, was racing in third, followed closely by Nitara, while Princess Reyana was the trailer by a large margin.
As the race continued, Agave Kiss increased her lead, first to three lengths, then to four, and finally to six as the field turned for home. Corderosa made a run at her in the stretch, but Agave Kiss was never really threatened en route to a decisive victory in 1:11.76.
Corderosa finished much the best of the rest, followed by Alydarla, Princess Reyana, and Nitara. The winner, owned by Flying Zee Racing Stables and trained by Rudy Rodriguez, has now brought her race record to a perfect 4-for-4.
