It's Tricky, a multiple grade I-winner in 2011, made a successful return to the races this afternoon at Aqueduct when she put away Love and Pride to win the $200,000 Top Flight Handicap (gr. II) by 2 3/4 lengths.
Ridden to victory by Ramon Dominguez, It's Tricky -- who was the odds-on favorite at 0.35-1 -- settled into the second position early on as Love and Pride set a good early pace of :24.05 and :47.98. Bahama Bound and Delightful Mary were next, while Coco Ecolo was content to trail the field of five.
Rounding the far turn and approaching the homestretch, It's Tricky moved up to challenge Love and Pride for the lead, and the two fillies drew clear of the rest of the field. It's Tricky then moved up strongly to take over the lead in upper stretch and pulled away to win in good fashion, stopping the clock for a mile and a sixteenth in 1:45.30.
Love and Pride held second by two lengths over the late-running Bahama Bound, while Coco Ecolo and Delightful Mary completed the order of finish.
The winner is owned by Godolphin Racing and trained by Kiaran McLaughlin. It's Tricky won the Acorn Stakes (gr. I) and Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I) last year, in addition to finishing second in the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (gr. I), Alabama Stakes (gr. I), and the Cotillion Stakes (gr. II). It's very possible that she could be sitting on an even bigger year next year.
