CHIPS ALL IN WINS THE PASADENA STAKES!

Chips All In rebounded from a last-place finish in the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (gr. II) last month to win Santa Anita's $70,000 Pasadena Stakes this afternoon.

Ridden to victory by Alonso Quinonez, Chips All In got off to an excellent start and went straight to the lead in the one-mile turf event, setting a moderate pace of :24.05 and :48.17 while leading by about a length. Tones was racing right behind him in second, followed along the rail by Midnight Crooner and on the outside by Unusual Heatwave. As it turns out, those four raced in that order all the way around the racetrack.

Turning for home, Chips All In still held the lead, but was soon confronted by Tones, who made a bold run at the leader in deep stretch. However, Chips All In dug in gamely and held off the challenge to win the race by a neck. The final time was 1:34.56. That's Dangerous did not finish after falling on the final turn. It is unknown at this time whether or not he has been injured.

Chips All In has now won five of his seven starts, including the Eddie Logan Stakes and Gold Rush Futurity as a juvenile. A son of North Light, it looks as though this colt could be a major force in future turf stakes races.
