9-5 favorite Flashy Dresser wore down Gung Ho in the Turfway Park homestretch to win the $75,000 Rushaway Stakes by a head.
Ridden to victory by Luis Contreras, Flashy Dresser settled into third early on as Dynamical set a slow pace of :24.93 and :49.89 while Gung Ho -- who had stumbled at the start -- tracked him in second. Gold Megillah was rating off the pace in fourth, followed by Going to Market and Sky Alert. Posey Rose and Bluedacious were the early trailers.
As the field made their way into the far turn, Flashy Dresser moved up boldly to challenge for the lead, while Gung Ho also moved up. Faced with multiple challengers, Dynamical began to drop back, leaving Flashy Dresser and Gung Ho alone on the lead. The two colts entered the homestretch locked together following three-quarters of a mile in 1:13.89 and put on quite the show down the homestretch, remaining on virtually even terms throughout the stretch. Then, in the final yards, Flashy Dresser stuck his head in front to win narrowly while stopping the clock for 1 1/16th miles in 1:45.58.
Gold Megillah made a strong run to secure third, a length behind the top two. Dynamical held on to finish fourth. Sky Alert, Posey Rose, Going to Market, and Bluedacious completed the order of finish.
The winner, a son of Flashy Bull out of Saltnvinegar, is both owned and trained by Frederick Seitz. He is now undefeated in two starts.
