A Three-Year-Old to Watch: Mile High Magic

Mile High Magic, another highly promising three-year-old colt from the barn of Bob Baffert, broke his maiden in very impressive fashion this afternoon at Santa Anita Park, drawing away powerfully in the homestretch to win a 6-1/2 furlong maiden special weight by five or six lengths.

Ridden to victory by Martin Garcia, Mile High Magic was sent off as the 4-5 favorite in a field of nine and ran like an odds-on favorite should. After tracking a blazing pace of :21.74 and :43.77 set by his stablemate Eaton Hall, Mile High Magic moved up strongly to take over the lead in the stretch before simply powering away in the stretch to win convincingly in the very sharp time of 1:14.55.

Treacherous, from the barn of Richard Mandella, closed strongly to finish second, but was never a threat to the runaway winner. Stratify also closed well to finish third, while Eaton Hall rounded out the superfecta.

The winner is owned by Mike Pegram and is trained by Bob Baffert.
