GEMOLOGIST WINS A GULFSTREAM PARK ALLOWANCE RACE!

Gemologist, making his first start since winning the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) last November, dominating four rivals in a one-mile allowance race this afternoon at Gulfstream Park, drawing away under a hand ride in the stretch to win by daylight.

Ridden to victory by Javier Castellano, Gemologist broke beautifully and was sent straight to the lead to set a moderate pace of :24.93 and :47.58. Tracking him in second was Currency Swap, while Angel's Tune was three-wide on the outside in third. Brother Pat and Jordan's Image were the early trailers.

Gemologist continued to lead the way down the backstretch and around the turn, but was soon confronted by Currency Swap as they approached the homestretch. However, Gemologist was able to turn back his rival's bid with little effort, and subsequently drew off with power through the stretch to win under almost no urging at all in 1:35.95.

Currency Swap finished clearly second best, followed by Angel's Tune, Jordan's Image, and Brother Pat. The winner is owned by WinStar Farm and trained by Todd Pletcher.
