Hansen re-affirmed his position as one of the leading three-year-old colts in the country with a dominating victory in the $400,000 Gotham Stakes (gr. III) this afternoon at Aqueduct.
Sent off as the 4-5 favorite, Hansen got off to a quick start and settled into the second position early on in the one-mile and a sixteenth race, although he was hung a bit wide around the first turn. As expected, King and Crusader was the early pacesetter, with Maan also showing good speed toward the rail.
Through fractions of :23.68 and :47.51, Hansen continued to track King and Crusader, while My Adonis was poised on the outside in third, just behind the heavy favorite. Turning for home, the Hansen put away King and Crusader and powered away to lead by a large margin. My Adonis gamely gave chase on the outside, but simply could not match strides with the runaway winner, who coasted home to win by three lengths in 1:43.84.
My Adonis was well clear of the rest of the field, while Finnegans Wake, Tiger Walk, Pretension, Stealcase, Raconteur, King and Crusader, Side Road, Done Talking, Dan and Sheila, Suns Out Guns Out, and Maan completed the order of finish. Owned by Kendall Hansen and Sky Chai Racing, the winner is trained by Mike Maker and was ridden to victory by Ramon Dominguez.
